Clinic-Based ABA Therapy with Turning Point

In our clinics, our highly trained behavior technicians work one-on-one with each child under the supervision of either a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). We currently have two locations: one in Cass City, MI and one in Bad Axe, MI. We chose these locations to  accommodate needs in both Tuscola and Huron counties. Both ofour clinis are located safely off of main roads, include over 25+ therapy rooms, gyms, and enclosed play areas.

Each therapy room features various areas for a client and their behavior technician to conduct one-on-one programming/discrete trial instruction (DTT). Group areas such as a carpet center and a snack/lunch table are also present in the larger rooms. These therapy rooms have features to contrive scenarios to practice verbal operants such as manding/requesting, independent play, and motor. Some rooms feature settings for toleration goals a client may be working on such as going to the dentist, trying new foods, or getting their hair cut at a salon. Clients at Turning Point have scheduled rooms that they transition between throughout their day. Each child has a rainbow cart to contain a client’s programming materials, reinforcement, and miscellaneous data collection materials the behavior technician may need throughout each  session.

What is Clinic-Based ABA Therapy?

Clinic-based ABA therapy takes place in a controlled, therapeutic setting where children can practice new skills in a safe and structured environment. This type of therapy allows for consistent teaching opportunities, reduced distractions, and Access to specialized staff and materials. Children participate in individualized sessions that target communication, self-help, and play skills while reducing challenging behaviors through positive reinforcement and evidence-based strategies.

Benefits of Clinic-Based ABA Therapy

Turning Point's clinic-based ABA therapy offers a structured, supportive environment where children can learn and grow with professional guidance. Here are some benefits of clinic-based ABA therapy:

  • Structured learning environment: Clinics are designed to minimize distractions and promote focus , helping children learn new skills more effectively. Therapy rooms are designed to promote play and increase motivation while also contriving different scenarios to practice skills.
  • Access to professional support: Children work directly with trained behavior technicians (R/BTs) and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs). They are responsible for monitoring progress, ensuring therapy is done with fidelity, and adjusting goals as needed.
  • Opportunities for social interaction: Clinics provide chances for children to practice communication and play skills with peers in a safe, supervised setting. We offer an on-site daycare for our staff, which allows our clients to have access to typically developing peers either in the clinic to model skills or in the daycare to join and practice play and group activities.
  • Consistency and routine: Turning  Point is open year round, as opposed to a school that may close for winter or summer breaks. Clients follow a schedule throughout their day and practice transitioning between various therapy rooms.
  • Collaboration and team approach: With our amount of professionals in the building, lead analysts are able to easily collaborate, share ideas, and problem solve together to ensure a child receives the best care. Case consultations with team members are available upon request of the lead analyst at any time in addition to clinical supervision.

Key Area of Focus

Clinic-based ABA therapy focuses on helping children develop the foundational skills they need for independence and social success. Key areas of focus include communication and language development, social interaction, play and leisure skills, daily living skills, and behavior reduction. Sessions are designed to promote generalization , meaning children learn how to apply these skills across different settings and with various people. Each program is data-driven and regularly adjusted to ensure steady progress towards measurable goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at 989-872-3834 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Upon arrival, children are greeted at the vehicle by their R/BT. They first start their day  by pairing with the clinic and their technician. We do this to make therapy fun and motivating. Once that is concluded they will transition into their structured schedule which is essentially their treatment plan goals broken down into 15-30 minute programs throughout the day. Programming may include one-on-one instruction, small group activities for social development, and of course time for reinforcement. Throughout the day, therapists use positive reinforcement and evidence-based ABA strategies to teach communication, social, self-help, and behavior regulation skills. BCBAs/BCaBAs will perform their supervision throughout the day with clients on their caseload. This incorporates  oversight for not only the R/BT but also maintenance and fidelity of programming. Parents receive daily updates through various apps, parent notes, and check-ins with their Lead Analysts.

Transportation availability depends on each family's location and specific needs. Some paretns choose to transport their child to and from the clinic, while others may qualify for transportation services. In Huron County clients may utilize Thumb Area Transit (TAT) to meet their needs. In Tuscola County, Turning Point is willing to provide transportation for families who fit the need until long-term transportation may be solidified.

Each child's recommended frequency of hours is contingent upon testing and their individualized treatment plan. Some clients attend the clinic 40 hours a week, other may do half days, intermittent days, evenings, etc. Our clinic hours are 8:00 AM-6:00 PM Monday-Friday to meet the needs of various clients.
